Hey Surfhouse Family 🤙
April at Umzumbe Surfhouse delivered the kind of magic that keeps people coming back to the South Coast year after year. With the shift into autumn, the coastline slowed just enough to let us soak in everything that makes Umzumbe special - warm water, golden light, and a steady rhythm of surf, food, and connection.
Warm Waters & The First Winter Signals
April also gave us a taste of what’s coming. The water stayed beautifully warm, but the ocean began to shift. The first real winter swells started pushing through, wrapping their way around Stiebel Rocks and lighting up the point. Clean lines, longer rides, and that unmistakable anticipation in the lineup - it is the season surfers wait for.

Creative Flow: Wave Painting with Radmer
Between sessions in the water, we slowed things down with a wave painting workshop led by Radmer. Guests traded boards for brushes, translating the movement of the ocean onto canvas. It was less about perfection and more about expression - salt still on skin, colours inspired by the horizon, and a new way to connect with the sea.
Surf Lessons & Guided Sessions
All month, we kept the stoke high with surf lessons and guided sessions. Whether it was someone standing up for the first time or more experienced surfers chasing better lines, the conditions offered something for everyone. Our local knowledge made all the difference - timing tides, reading the banks, and finding those quieter corners.
Evenings Done Right: Surf, Turf & Firelight
As the sun dipped, the Surfhouse came alive in a different way. Our surf-and-turf braais brought everyone together around the fire - fresh fish on the grill, sizzling boerewors, and stories shared over the crackle of the flames. Bonfire nights stretched long, with music, laughter, and that unmistakable coastal chill creeping in just enough to make the fire essential.
Looking Ahead to MayÂ
May is when things really come alive. Consistent swells, better winds, and clean winter lines start wrapping the point, with quieter beaches and glassy mornings. Evenings stay simple and social with a Yoga session to wind down, braais, bonfires, and good company.
If April was the warm-up, May is looking like the main event right now!
See you in the lineup!
