It might be winter on the calendar, but down here at Umzumbe Surfhouse, it still feels like a slice of summer—just without the crowds. The air is cooler, sure, but the Indian Ocean is still warm, often warmer than the air itself, making for long, clean surf sessions and salty swims with dolphins passing by.

This is honestly one of the best times to be here. The vibe is slow and easy, the beaches are quiet, and the waves are yours. Mornings roll into evenings with just the right rhythm—surf, stretch, eat, repeat.

🐟 Sardine Season Is Coming

One of the most exciting natural events on the South Coast is just around the corner—Sardine Season. Starting in June, massive shoals of sardines head up the coast, pulling in dolphins, whales, gannets, and game fish in one of the ocean’s most dramatic feeding frenzies. From our tree deck, you can watch dolphins cutting through bait balls, birds diving in flocks, and whales breaching on the horizon.And if you’re into fishing? You won’t find a better setup—just 30 metres from the Surfhouse, through the garden gate, you’re on the beach, rod in hand, in the middle of it all. Whether you’re casting lines, shooting photos, or just sipping your morning coffee with the ocean going wild in front of you, this is front-row viewing of one of the planet’s wildest shows.

We’ve just had a Christmas cancellation, which means the entire Surfhouse property is available again over the festive season and New Year’s Eve. That’s a rare opening—if you’ve been dreaming of a barefoot summer holiday with your crew, now’s the time to jump.

That said, you don’t need to wait until December. Our place is just as good—maybe even better—right now. Whether you’re chasing waves, working remotely by the sea, or just craving a proper break, Umzumbe Surfhouse is ready.

We’ve got space available throughout winter for weekend escapes, solo retreats, couples, small groups, and full Surfhouse takeovers. Come soak it up.
