Hey Surfhouse Family 🤙

February at Umzumbe Surf Camp brought everything we love about summer on the South Coast - warm water, glassy mornings, tropical afternoons, and plenty of time in the ocean. The month was defined by small, clean waves rolling through consistently. While the swell wasn’t huge, the conditions were absolutely perfect for learning to surf and building confidence in the water. Gentle lines, soft take-offs, and long sandy stretches gave beginners the space they needed to find their feet, while intermediate surfers enjoyed refining their turns and flow in fun, forgiving conditions.

Crystal Clear Water

The ocean stayed beautifully clean throughout the month, with that deep blue-green clarity that makes you want to paddle out again and again. Combined with hot, humid weather, it truly felt like peak summer. Mornings were often calm and glassy - ideal for early surf sessions - while the afternoons occasionally delivered dramatic thunderstorms. Watching the clouds roll in from the deck, lightning flickering in the distance, brought that classic coastal summer energy we’ve come to expect in February.

First Paint Workshop of 2026 already sold out

We’re excited to share that our next paint workshop is coming up on the 12th of March. It’s always a special experience seeing everyone tap into their creative side, drawing inspiration from the ocean and translating it onto canvas. Salt in the air, boards drying in the sun, and paintbrushes moving across bright colours create such a unique and relaxed atmosphere. Spots are already sold out, so we’re looking forward to another inspiring session. Email us now to be put on our waiting list and to get first access to the next one!

PlayZN Surfreport

A big highlight for us this month was sharing the stoke beyond the beach. We delivered a daily surf report sponsored by the Surfhouse on PlayZN Radio throughout the entire month of February. It was such a great opportunity to keep listeners updated on conditions, tides, and what to expect along the coast, while also spreading the surf culture and energy of the South Coast to a wider audience.

Easter Bookings now open!

And as we look ahead, our Easter bookings are now officially open. Easter is always a special time at the Umzumbe Surfhouse - warm water, fun waves, festive energy, and long beach days shared with friends and family. If you’re thinking of joining us, we recommend booking early to secure your spot.

Our beachfront main house can sleep up to 14 guests in two double and two dorm rooms -perfect for group getaways filled with braais, late nights, and sunrise surfs.

Looking for something smaller? Our beachfront bungalows can sleep 2–5 guests - ideal for couples, families, or friends wanting a laid-back coastal escape.

Surf, Yoga, Eat, Sleep, Repeat.

Beyond the surf, camp life was full and vibrant. Yoga sessions continued to complement our surf routines perfectly. With the heat and humidity in full swing, stretching and breathwork helped everyone stay balanced, mobile, and refreshed. Whether it was a gentle recovery flow after a long session or an energising morning class before paddling out, yoga remained a key part of the rhythm here at camp.

Evenings were filled with relaxed braais, laughter, and storytelling under warm summer skies. There’s something special about coming in from a sunset surf, rinsing off, and gathering around the fire to share good food and surf stories from the day. February reminded us that our Surfcamp isn’t just about waves - it’s about connection, community, and slowing down.

No Surf? No Problem! Day trips to Lake Eland

For those looking to explore beyond the beach, we made the scenic 40-minute drive to Lake Eland - always a worthwhile adventure. Nestled in nature with giraffes and other wildlife, it offered a peaceful contrast to our ocean days. From walking trails to simply soaking in the greenery and fresh inland air, it was the perfect mini escape while still keeping the coast close by.

Summer Still Going Strong

February reminded us why summer in Umzumbe is so special - not just the big swells, but the small, glassy waves that welcome everyone in. Warm water sessions, afternoon tropical storms, long shared meals, and the simple rhythm of life by the ocean. As we head into March, we’re carrying that relaxed, sun-soaked energy with us.

If this month showed us anything, it’s that even the smallest waves can create the biggest memories. Send us an email and make yours:  Umzumbesurfcamp@gmail.com or whatsapp us on +27 73 536 8728!

Stay stoked, Your Surfhouse Fam
